Oklahoma WR Westbrook leaves game after taking hard hit

Don’t expect OSU to gift OU’s defense like WV did two weeks ago.

Westbrook’s touchdown gave the entire Sooners’ team life, but his second quarter injury almost deflated any momentum they had built up. The Sooners were rolling downhill, putting together a six-play drive for 88 yards, all off run plays, to take a 24-17 lead.

It’s feasible OSU coach Mike Gundy and Mason Rudolph could walk off Owen Field victorious, arms around each other’s shoulders. Grogan missed a 38-yarder with 9:49 left in the game that could have cut the lead to eight.

They’re also 10-1 against the number in their last 11 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and are 4-1 ATS in their last five games coming off a win of more than 20 points. The sophomore ranks second nationally behind Christian McCaffrey with 195 all-purpose yards per game. Because the name at the top of the list has one more game to play. Westbrook, whose 69-yard touchdown reception put the Sooners on the board, exited midway through the second quarter after receiving a powerful hit from Sterns. He didn’t return to the game. Combined, Perine and Mixon ran for 305 yards and two touchdowns against the Cowboys. Former Booker T. Washington star Justice Hill rushed for 92 yards in the first 30 minutes. “The ultimate goal is to play for a national championship”.

Baker Mayfield was once again the trigger man for the relentless Oklahoma offense. Westbrook left the game in the first half, after still putting up over 100 yards, with a concussion, which left some to wonder if Baker Mayfield could have the same effect on the game without his favorite target.

If the Cowboys would have been aggressive, pushed for a field goal, at least, it would seem to swing that momentum back.

But in a practical sense, the rule penalized a player like Mayfield, who simply wanted to play his college career at a more advantageous place for his future development. I thought that too, but when the Cowboys are involved in one of the most lopsided rivalries in NCAA history where not once, but twice, OSU had 20-season droughts against the Sooners, three wins ain’t looking too shabby. OSU had three trips inside the OU red zone in the first half and came away with just three points to show for it.
