Ole Miss Dominates Oklahoma State, Wins 2016 Sugar Bowl
So which Ole Miss will OSU get tonight?
The new year is already super sweet, especially because of the Sugar Bowl!
We salute the seniors, and say farewell to Emmanuel Ogbah.
The Oklahoma State defense has forced an average of 2.2 turnovers per game this season, but Ole Miss is 3-1 SU when turning the ball over at least 2.0 times in a game. But if he hopes to earn a permanent spot in Ole Miss lore, the coach and his program must eventually take that next step. “It was bred in my mind that taking Ole Miss to the Sugar Bowl was about as good as it can get”, said Freeze, “The Sugar Bowl, in many Rebel’s minds, including mine, is one of the pinnacles of coaching in the Southeastern Conference”. The two last met in 2012, with the Rebels winning 39-0 in the Superdome.
Kelly accepted a scholarship from Ole Miss. For the first time since 1970 Ole Miss won the Sugar Bowl. This win could be a precursor for things to come for this Ole Miss football team.
NO NKEMDICHES: The Rebels will be missing two of their best defensive players in the Sugar Bowl. The Rebs first bid was for the 1951 contest, where the No. 7-ranked Rebs fell to the No. 2 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 24-7. At DuPage in 2013, he lost in the Carrier Dome Bowl. Now the programs meet in the Sugar Bowl for the first time. That capped off the 1959 season, in which Ole Miss was arguably the nation’s most dominant football team, shutting out all but three opponents to earn a 10-1 record. Chad Kelly needs to be in plays where he can utilize his multi-dimensional abilities as not just a quarterback but an athlete.
Let Chad Kelly loose: This is hardly advice coach Hugh Freeze needs to hear, but over the course of a full season Kelly’s tendency toward gunslinging can spell trouble.
But the celebration surrounding a Sugar Bowl win might overshadow a lingering question of expectations for Ole Miss.
Ole Miss was embarrassed a year ago in a 42-3 loss to Texas Christian in the Peach Bowl and players vowed throughout the past month the outcome would be much different in this bowl game.
Treadwell wasn’t the only potential first-round draft choice that had a chance to show off. Rudolph though was injured at the end of the year, and it’s unclear if he’ll be playing or not.
This year, they managed to turn the tables on the Big 12. The Buckeyes’ five victories trail only Penn State for the most in the 45-year history of the Fiesta Bowl.
The Rebels are deep at receiver and it’s rare that Treadwell alone would be called upon to carry the team at any point.
This was projected to be one of the highest-scoring bowl games this postseason, but it turned out to be a one-sided Ole Miss win. The Olivia and Archie Manning Performance Center is the Rebels’ practice facility. Who does that? While they will lose Treadwell, Nkemdiche and Tunsil, among others, they will still have talented players returning and Freeze continues to recruit quite well. But if he does suit up, then side with the Cowboys to end the year on a strong note as these two teams trade big plays and touchdowns through the air in what should be an exciting and entertaining match.
Pop superstar Usher will host a free concert at 6:15 p.m.at the Jackson Square in downtown New Orleans as part of the Allstate Fan Fest. Yeah, that’s pretty great.
