Olisa Metuh Freed From Prison
The prosecution has so far produced four witnesses who had given their various testimonies against the embattled PDP spokesmen of how money running into millions of naira were received and transferred to Destra Investment, a company Metuh allegedly has stake in.
Kabiru, under cross examination by Metuh’s counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, told the court that he was not aware of the foreign exchange limit by Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
The court had granted Metuh’s request and reviewed the conditions for his bail which appears to have been met by the PDP stalwart as he has been released from Kuje prison.
He, however, told the court that he never sold Dollars to Mr Metuh at any point in time.
Justice Okon Abang has deferred the trial to February 4.
Mr Metuh was released on Thursday afternoon.
The court, however, rejected an aspect of the application directing the prosecuting counsel, Sylvanus Tahir, to within 24 hours of being notified, verify the addresses of the proposed sureties and the certificates of occupancy of the property to be presented by them. Meanwhile, Metuh was yesterday released from the prison custody after fulfilling his bail conditions.
While the bail sum of N400m and other attached conditions remained, Metuh’s proposed sureties, whom the court insisted must be resident in Abuja, could be owners of property with valid title documents “in any district of the Federal Capital Territory”.
Metuh was arrested and detained by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations of diversion of security funds and money laundering.
