Olympic figure skater Debi Thomas broke, lives in bug-infested trailer
She then went on to get her medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and became an orthopedic surgeon.

Debi Thomas, a fallen Olympic figure skater and doctor, is now living in a bed bug-infested trailer park where she’s penniless and begging former fans for money, she revealed in a new interview.
“You can’t help anybody until you can help you”, Iyanla says.
“[I feel] frustrated”, Thomas told Vanzant, breaking down in tears.
Because Thomas’ own trailer is so disorderly and infested with bed bugs, she and Iyanla meet in Iyanla’s RV to have a frank conversation about how Thomas’ life dissolved into its current state. That’s when another divorce led Thomas to lose her nest egg, she says, and she soon had to close her private practice after two years.
Thomas had also hoped to land her own reality show deal.
Vanzant has made a career out of airing other people’s dirty laundry on national television with her so-called tough-love tactics.
Looney chips in: “I’ve got a small business”.
“It takes time to get to wherever you’re at”.
‘Not guilty that you’ve got a man, two kids and a bedbug infestation in a trailer?’ Iyanla continues.
“I’ve been a millionaire twice, I’ve had nice homes”. I also wasn’t shocked to see that Thomas was living in a women’s shelter but went back to her boyfriend, who allegedly is no longer drinking. “But I’ve got to own it”.
On Iyanla: Fix My Life, host Vanzant slams Thomas for only feeling “frustrated” at her predicament.
“Not sad, not angry, not ashamed?” asked Vanzant. The two have a deep discussion about Debi’s personal triumphs and tragedies, as well as her failed relationship with her son. “Frustration is what you feel?”
In a video embedded on the account, Thomas says she developed it as an “emergency fund” for her family with the aim of restoring “financial stability after severe sudden financial losses over the past couple of years associated with a combination of financially crippling life challenges”. Iyanla shouts. “You’re raising somebody else’s children!”
Unfortunately for Thomas, financial issues seem to be just one of many issues she’s facing, including taking responsibility for where she fell short in her marriages and motherhood. “Telling yourself the truth is important”.
