Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street charged with assault
Charged with assault, U.S. Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street will plead not guilty.
Retired Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street has been arrested in Park City, Utah on suspicion of misdemeanor assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child after an alleged physical confrontation with her father, Roland Street, E!
In police documents released today, the skier admitted to locking her father Roland “Stubby” Street in the basement after pushing him.
Picabo Street’s three children witnessed the fight, according to police.
Street and her father, Roland Street, 76, got into an argument as he was leaving his daughter’s home and “in the process bumped his vehicle into the house”, according to a Summit County sheriff’s affidavit. A responding police officer noticed Roland Street had cuts on his elbow and neck, according to the report.
On Wednesday, the Associated Press reported that Street has been formally charged with assault and domestic violence.
Street won Olympic gold while representing the United States in Nagano, Japan in 1998 in the women’s Super G. Her accolades also include a silver medal in women’s Downhill in the 1994 Lillehammer games in Norway.
More recently, she worked as an analyst for Fox Sports during the 2014 Winter Games from Sochi, Russia.
“He pulled so much hair out of my head”, she told the dispatcher at another point while her father apparently remained downstairs.
Her attorney, Jason Richards, said she denies any wrongdoing in what she considers a private family matter. He said Street is hopeful an “amicable resolution” can be reached. She is now out on bond and will appear in court February 16 for her next hearing.
“Domestic violence cases we tend to take them very seriously”, Bates told ABC4 Utah News.
