Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez returns home to fanfare
Laurie Hernandez might be taking her bubbly persona from the balance beam to the ballroom.
The Olympic gold medalist is swapping out her leotard for dancing shoes to join this coming season of “Dancing with the Stars”, Us Magazine reported Sunday.
“The thought of it sounds really cool”, Hernandez previously told Us of potentially joining DWTS. Given that the tour still hasn’t gone away, we imagine that she’s going to be working nearly around-the-clock – which certainly sounds like a lot for someone who is only 16 years old.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his brother, Val, will also return to the dance floor, along with Emma Slater, Witney Carson, Sharna Burgess, Artem Chigvintsev, Lindsay Arnold, Sasha Farber, Gleb Savchenko and Allison Holker.
“‘With the tour going on, the fall [season] will be very, very hard to attend, so I can’t do that one”, Biles told Extra on Tuesday.
While the official cast announcement won’t happen until August 30, ET reports that much of the cast has been set, including Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte and model Amber Rose. The last Olympic gymnast who competed on Dancing, Shawn Johnson, went on to win the Mirror Ball trophy in Season 8.
The full, confirmed lineup will be announced on Good Morning America on August 30, and we just can’t wait to see who makes it.
While there’s no word on whether or not pro Mark Ballas will return, it sounds like he could make a ideal partner for Hernandez.
She placed second behind Melissa Rycroft in the all-star edition. Dancing with the Stars returns Monday, Sept. 12 at 8/7c on ABC.
