Oman police say 18 killed, 14 injured in bus crash
Lt Col Said al Dawoodi, deputy manager for Fahud Operations said, “It was a head-on collision between a coach bus and a truck near the Nateeh roundabout on the road leading from Ibri to Fahud”.
Royal Oman Police (ROP) has confirmed the accident.
Some of those who survived have serious injuries.
“Nine bodies have been kept in Nizwa hospital and nine other bodies are kept in Ibri hospital morgues”, said Rejimon K, an Indian journalist reporting the accident from Nizwa. Police officers from Muscat arrived at the scene via helicopter, while workers with Petroleum Development Oman also aided rescuers, authorities said.
Police said six Omanis, four Saudi nationals, two Pakistanis and one Yemeni were among those killed. Five others were still unidentified.
Traffic crashes are not uncommon in the Gulf states.
The bus was heading for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
In May 2015, 15 migrant workers died in a bus crash in Dubai.
