Omar Mateen texted his wife during the shooting rampage

The Post reported that Robert Abell, co-owner of Lotus Gunworks, said Mateen came to his shop wanting body armor, and placed a call in a foreign language after being told the shop didn’t carry the equipment. “I am the shooter”, the caller cut in. He asked the caller to identify himself and got the reply, Gentili said, that it was “none of my [expletive] business”.

In the midst of the chaos early Sunday morning at Pulse nightclub, our sister station at News 13 in downtown Orlando was covering the story when a producer took an ominous phone call.

“I will never forget the words he said to me”, Matthew Gentili, the producer who answered the call, said in a News 13 interview.

Members of the SWAT team underwent a stress-management debriefing Wednesday, as hundreds of others involved in the response to the shooting have done, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said.

“These are some of the bravest toughest men I know”, Mina said. Next, he started speaking in Arabic. But it was, he was speaking fluently.

“Gentili said the caller stopped and said: “I did it for ISIS”.

Despite his professed loyalty to the extremist group, the Obama administration has said it has seen no evidence that the shooting rampage was directed by the Islamic State.

Gentili asked that the caller speak English, and he did so.

“It was silent for a while”.

“I ask that you please provide all Facebook data on Mr Mateens activities on his account and any affiliated Facebook accounts, including but not limited to activity logs, Facebook timeline information, Facebook messages, photos, and posts,”he said”. “He said no and hung up the phone”.

The siege ended at about 5 a.m., when law enforcement officials stormed the nightclub. Police found the bodies of 49 victims, and dozens more club goers were wounded, some critically.

After completing a 12-hour shift, Gentili was interviewed at home by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The station’s article quotes Gentili saying, “I’m definitely changed”. The FBI is also trying to establish how much Mateen’s wife may have known about the attack at Pulse dance club.

Mateen then texted: “I love you, babe”.
