Omar McLeod clinches gold in 110m hurdles as Devon Allen misses out
Omar Mcleod of Jamaica wins the gold medal in the Men’s 110m Hurdles Final ahead of silver medalist Orlando Ortega of Spain/Cuba and bronze medalist Dimitri Bascou of France/Martinique on Day 11 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Olympic Stadium on August 16, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
McLeod, the only man to have gone below 13 seconds this year, is hoping to become the Caribbean island’s first Olympic high hurdles champion later on Tuesday but looks to face a stiff challenge from a trio of Europeans.
Cuban-born Orlando Ortega secured the silver medal for Spain, just unable to catch McLeod on the line.
France’s Dimitri Bascou took bronze in 13.24.
Milan Trajkovic, who ran a Cypriot record 13.31, and Canadian Johnathan Cabral (13.41) will round out the final.
McLeod later told journalists: “Never in a million years would I have thought I would be an Olympic champion and a World champion in one year…”
