On the way: cold air, winter weather advisory
The advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. tonight through 6 a.m. Wednesday. “There’s a Winter Weather Advisory for the Thumb Area (east of Saginaw and Flint) for 3-7” of new snow. Up to an inch of snow could fall by the time the snow showers stop. Highways may be in slightly better shape if treated, as salt is working because temperatures are in the low 20s.
“With another snow system on its way to Maryland, it’s important for our citizens to remember that any amount of snow or ice on the roads can make conditions risky”, Hogan said in a statement. That flooding will creep up to shorelines already eroded from a more severe winter storm in January. The Winter Storm Warning has been cancelled, though officials are still warning drivers to use caution.
The snow began in earnest Tuesday morning, and roads quickly became hazardous during the morning drive in several cities. Some areas could see a foot of snow or more by Thursday morning…especially along/west of USA 131 in the warning counties. “This will allow road crews to treat and clear roads as quickly as possible”. Higher elevations could still see an inch or so of snow. It will be mostly cloudy wiht the best chance for any lingering snow across the far north eastern counties up toward Logan County.
Seasonably warm temperatures next week will be prefaced by snow on Wednesday and wind chills in the negatives the rest of this week, the National Weather Service says. “Accumulating snow will affect travel”, DEMA said.
Plus, light snow or snow is in the forecast for Wednesday.
