‘Once Upon a Time’ to Explore LGBT Relationship Finally
Executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz revealed the information to Entertainment Weekly after a screening of the season premiere on Friday.
The roles are played by actresses Jamie Chung and Sarah Bolger.
“But it is something that we’re going to do this year”, stated Kitsis.
Kitsis quickly added that it was something they definitely plan on exploring this year but their comments leave it vague on whether or not it would be with Mulan and Aurora, any of the many new characters entering the show this season or even older characters – or any combination of the above. “This is the world we live in”, Horowitz continued.
The ambiguity in their answer, however, leaves open the possibility that this exploration may not just be about the Mulan and Aurora relationship, but potentially any of the new characters hailing from Camelot, or faces we’ve seen before across the past five seasons. Online, it is indicated that the actress will be reprising the Disney role “for a multi-episode run”.
Whoever is involved in the relationship, it will be the first time that “Once Upon a Time” will explore this kind of story.
Mulan isn’t the only one returning, Meghan Ory’s Red Riding Hood/Ruby Lucas will also have a comeback in Season 5.
Horowitz also said that the next seventh episode titled “Nimue” translated as “Lady of the Lake” is the name of an episode Mulan appeared in during the second season.
The EP previously announced on Twitter that Mulan’s return to “OUAT” will span both halves of the upcoming season.
Once Upon a Time returns to ABC on September 27 at 8 p.m. “We’re going to see her dad and her mom and the whole thing”.
Aside from the anticipated Mulan-Aurora reunion, TVOvermind suggests that Mulan’s return in “Once Upon a Time” Season 5 could provide some flashback scenes on what happened during her journey with Robin Hood and the Merry Men.
