One Big Issue We Already Have With DC’s Planned Gotham City Sirens
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script for DC’s first female-driven comic book movie will be written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the woman behind the latest Tomb Raider remake with Alicia Vikander.
When Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn returns to the big screen, she’ll be bringing some friends along. Not too shabby. So I’ve got no qualms whatsoever about Robbie reuniting with director David Ayer to work on their next project: Gotham City Sirens. The film shares a title with a recent DC Comic, but if you’re unfamiliar with the run or the concept behind it, we can get you up to speed with a Crash Course. We want sequels and spinoffs now, all of which must fold into the DC movie-verse, which also contains its own myriad array of franchises and spinoff franchises.
But doesn’t it seem unusual that Patty Jenkins made so much headway for female directors by directing Wonder Woman only for Warner Bros.to turn around and give this movie to David Ayer?
The characters have been played by different actresses over the years in various Batman movies including Michelle Pfeifer and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy. Entitled Gotham City Sirens the follow-up, which will hopefully see more character development for Harley Quinn, will be executive produced by Robbie herself. Margot’s portrayal was easily the reason why I enjoyed Suicide Squad as much as I did.
Other supervillains who could put in an appearance include Catwoman (Batman’s love interest) and Poison Ivy (who is the mistress of plants and their toxins).
Ayer will once again be directing a DC Comics movie with a cast full of bad guys, as Gotham City Sirens, like the comic book of the same name, will feature some of DC Comics’s most popular female villains. Or maybe they’ll just push that further back so he can do both. What’s additional, the movie drawn in and hit over $700 million at the box office, so the chance for a contract is strong.
