One constable killed, two injured in Karkardooma Court firing
East Delhi district court Karkardooma was the scene of a shootout about an hour ago, as unidentified persons entered its courtroom 73 and fired several bullet rounds. Three of them were residents of Dakshinpuri and one lived in Madangir – in south Delhi.
The dead constable, identified as Ram Kumar, posted at Delhi Police’s third battalion, which is entrusted with the transport of undertrials between courts and prisons, was hit by four bullets. A clerk present in the court also sustained injuries. The incident took place when an accused person was produced before the court for a hearing in a registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station.
An armed gang opened fire inside an Indian courtroom Wednesday, killing a policeman and sending the judge scurrying for cover, as a suspect was being brought up from the cells.
Irfan has a criminal background and hails from Seelampur in the Trans-Yamuna area.
Police sources said that the shooters were alleged to have been hired by the rival Nasir Gang.
Advocate Mahesh Sharma, President of the Shahdara Bar Association, said there was a “serious lapse” of security and “inadequate” number of policemen have been depolyed in the court premises. Two people have been detained.
