One Dead, Three Wounded in University Shooting
Situation is stabilized. Campus not on lockdown.
One person is dead and three others injured following a shooting overnight at a college campus in Arizona.
Arizona is an open-carry state whose voters have been strongly opposed to gun control measures in the past, but, Northern Arizona University generally prohibits weapons and firearms, with a few exceptions – guns are allowed in vehicles, for example, if they are stowed.
Junior Megan Aardahl said she awoke to text messages from the school and her family checking to see if she was OK.
He worked as a cashier at the Puma outlet store in Castle Rock during the summer after graduating high school. Or whether he simply got caught in the crossfire of confrontation between two rival NAU groups?
Support services are being provided for members of the university community. The three wounded people are being treated at Flagstaff Medical Center. “Four of our students were shot”, said Gregory Fowler, chief of NAU police.
Mountain View Hall is “a dormitory which houses most of the campus’ students involved in Greek organizations”, ABC News reported. The confrontation turned physical and one of our students shot the other students.
Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, who lives in Flagstaff, said her heart was hurting, but expressed confidence that the city “will only grow stronger in hard moments like these”.

Sherman said it was an isolated incident and not fraternity related.
— 2:20 p.m. A judge has set a $2 million cash-only bond for an 18-year-old Northern Arizona University student accused of fatally shooting another student and wounding three others.
Colin Brough, killed in a fatal shooting at Northern Arizona University early Friday morning, hailed from Colorado, according to his social media accounts. Deputy County Attorney Ammon Barker said Steven Jones could have easily walked away from a fight early Friday and instead retrieved his gun and “went back into the fray”.
“This is not going to be a normal day at NAU”, said school president Rita Cheng.
The shooting happened in a parking lot next to the Mountain View residence hall, officials said.
