One Direction Performs “Drag Me Down” Live for the First Time!
To celebrate the release – and to generate even more excitement – the group performed the song on Tuesday’s “Good Morning America”.
The boys first sang their previous hit singles “Steal My Girl“, the lead single of their 2014 album “Four“, and “Story of My Life“, the breakout hit from its 2013 se “Midnight Memories”.
A song about gathering strength from one’s lover, “Drag Me Down” largely keeps One Direction’s soft pop style but is backed by a reggae-influenced guitar. 1D’s verve shot through the roof when the chorus of “Drag Me Down” made its full impact.
The band had previously performed “Drag Me Down” for the first time live on Friday, the day the song was released, at their show in Indianapolis, but this was the first time they would play for such a massive audience.
“Drag Me Down” is the first piece of new work they’ve released since beloved Zayn Malik left the group.
“I suppose it’s quite eclectic really isn’t it”, Payne said, adding that the band took inspiration from The Police, another famous English rock band.
Meanwhile, Louis Tomlinson did not escape the haunting question about his supposed fatherhood. When congratulated on becoming a father, he simply, said thank you and that it was an exciting time in his life.
