It’s unclear how much of a Grammys prognosticator the AMAs will be this year, but regardless, it doesn’t look good for the likes of D’angelo, while we can’t see Taylor Swift losing to Ariana Grande for a major award again. The soundtrack for “Pitch Perfect” scored the honor for being the best music to accompany a film while One Direction was voted the Artist of the Year.
Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth did a duet of the song “Marvin Gaye” and ended with a kiss that turned into a full-blown make-out session.
During this part of the performance, the blond babe literally tossed the mic aside and had an impressive dance break!
Singer Enrique Iglesias won the favorite Latin artist prize, while the band Fall Out Boy won the award for favorite alternative rock band and Swift won the award for favorite adult contemporary artist. One Direction won the biggest award of the night, being crowned artist of the year for the second year in a row.
The 21-year-old singer closed out the telecast with a rain-filled performance of three of the hottest songs off of his new album “Purpose” – “Sorry“, “Where Are U Now” and “What Do You Mean?“. Singer Celine Dion then paid tribute by singing Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à L’Amour” in French. Jennifer Lopez hosted the ceremony, which was held at the Microsoft Theatre. Even rapper and former ex, Diddy, gave a shout out to his former flame saying “Give it up for J.L.O” after her performance. He won favorite male artist – pop/rock. She snagged trophies for favorite hip-hop album and hip-hop artist, but “she was in total bitch mode”, said a source, who witnessed the diva snub a fan.
Prince, who earned a rousing applause, presented the first award of the night to the Weeknd for favorite album – soul/R&B for “Beauty Behind the Madness”.
Taylor Swift, who is out of the country shooting a music video, was the top nominee with six. “She goes, ‘Ariana, I went on the computer, I voted, so I think you’ll win, ‘” Grande said in an Italian accent. To coincide with the upcoming release of “The Force Awakens” Harrison Ford appeared onstage to introduce Pentatonixand an orchestra performing the classic “Star Wars” theme.
