One in Custody, Two Sought for Firing Gunshots at Brooklyn Officers
Authorities say three suspects are in custody following a shootout with police Wednesday night in Brooklyn.
One of the suspects was found in Beth Israel Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, cops said.
The men were fighting with each other near Park Avenue and North Portland Avenue about 10:43 p.m., when three plainclothes police in an unmarked vehicle passed them and doubled back, according to the NYPD.
When the officers turned their auto around to approach the men, at least two of the suspects opened fire, police said.
The officers – two officers and a lieutenant – were not hit, but were later treated at Methodist Hospital for tinnitus, a ringing in the ears.
Investigators found a. 45 caliber gun under the tire of a nearby vehicle.
Police returned fire as the group ran away.
It was not immediately clear if the wounded suspect, who was listed in stable condition, was struck by a weapon fired by police. The remaining two shooters, described as men, fled from the scene on foot, they said.
The investigation is ongoing.
