One killed, several injured after shooting and auto crash in Missouri
Sgt. Kari Thompson said in a statement that police believe the occupants of two vehicles were exchanging gunfire Tuesday night when one vehicle struck a nearby uninvolved vehicle.
A chase ensued but then eventually the pursuit ended at St. John and Bennington around 5 p.m.
A third auto carrying an adult woman driver and six children crashed their vehicle trying to get away from the gunfire.
One of the two people involved in the shooting was also critically injured. Police say they had to deploy a tire deflation device to get that to happen.
The adult woman died at the scene of the crash and the children were taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Police have apprehended a suspect following shooting and auto chase in KCMO.
“Mothers are burying their children”.
“This is Kansas City”, Thompson said. “This is not right”, Thompson said. “Let’s not turn a blind eye to this area”.
“Our major crimes in central patrol continue to go down and I think that’s a direct result of hard work of the men and women assigned to central patrol”, said Shawn Wadle, Division Commander for KCPD’s Central Patrol. “Whether you live in the urban core, north or south of the river, this is still your city and we all have to take accountability to do what we can to stop the violence in our city”.
