One killed, six injured in stabbing at Denver Motorcycle Show
Denver Police say one person is dead and at least nine people injured after gunfire erupted at a motorcycle expo Saturday afternoon.
An attorney says a Colorado Department of Corrections officer fired his gun during a weekend brawl at a Denver motorcycle show that left one dead and seven others injured.
The Arena Cross event being held at the National Western Events Center Saturday night will go on as scheduled with shows at 7:00 p.m. tonight and 2:00 p.m. Sunday. A Denver Post reporter at the expo shared photos on Twitter of passersby ignoring dried blood on a stairwell and noted a wet t-shirt contest was set to continue as planned. Initially it was said that the shooting happened close to Denver Coliseum.
Of the six injured, three are in a critical condition and three are in a serious condition.
The incident occurred just before 1 p.m.at the Colorado Motorcycle Expo, an event that has been held in Denver with no problems for 30 years. Nobody had been arrested, she said, though men led away from the event in handcuffs were being questioned. White said four people were shot, including one person who was killed.
McVaney did not release details about what injuries they were being treated for.
KDVR in Denver reports multiple police and medical units responded, while St. George states eyewitnesses say they believe “The Mongols” motorcycle gang is involved.
“We strongly suspect there was more than one shooter”, White said. When asked why it wasn’t shut down immediately, White said authorities thought the scene was safe because of the heavy police presence and because most people had vacated the building.
A source told KUSA-TV the incident involved two motorcycle clubs.
One of the gangs is listed as major by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and according to 9News, one of the clubs involved has law enforcement personnel as members.
