One Person Dead in Officer-Involved Shooting in MN
A man was shot and killed by a Plymouth police officer inside an Arby’s restaurant Thursday night, authorities said.
Police were called to the Arby’s located near Highway 55 and Revere Lane North at 8:18 p.m. for a problem inside, according to Plymouth Police Chief Michael Goldstein.
When Therkelsen arrived on the scene, two people were trying to “subdue the subject”. He didn’t follow Therkelsen’s commands and she tried to use her stun gun, but it wasn’t effective. The officer scuffled with the man and tried to bring him under control.
Officer Amy Therkelsen is a seven-year veteran at the Plymouth Police Department, the Department of Public Safety stated in a press release.
He says the encounter lead to a “confrontation”, and the officer fatally shot the man.
Interviews with the officer and witnesses are not yet complete Friday morning, the release said.
The individual has been taken to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and formal identification.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating. The officer sustained minor injuries in the scuffle that did not require treatment. At the time of the incident, businesses in the area were temporarily evacuated.
