One simple change can increase your laptop’s battery life by 50%

Google Chrome was the first one to lose lasting only for 4 hours and 19 minutes while Mozilla Firefox lasted for 5 hours and 9 minutes.

The four browsers Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera faced off against in each playing streaming video non-stop on Microsoft Surface Books using the same configuration.

The laptop running with the Microsoft Edge browser is lasted till the end of the more than 7 hours which is 70% longer than the laptop which is running with the Chrome.

The company goes into more detail in a blog post about how it’s building a more power efficient browser. Again Edge won out, although Chrome did better than you might expect and Firefox proved the worst in tests.

The data from this test is a clear attempt by Microsoft to attract new users to its Edge browser, which was launched as part of Windows 10 and has been undergoing development since the OS was released.

If Edge is to compete with the likes of Google Chrome it should add innovative features to differentiate its offerings from others. Microsoft execs also blogged about the processes and the lab set-up the company used to test the battery life of Windows machines running various browsers. The study involved HD videos being streamed on different web browsers and timing which one lasted the longest before losing all its juice.

Anyone who has ever used Google Chrome knows that although the browser is great, it drains your laptop’s battery really quickly.
