OnePlus 2 teardown reveals the ‘2016 flagship killer’ is easy to fix
OnePlus 2, the handset that earlier this week launched in India, is relatively easy to fix as per a report by fix and teardown site iFixit.
While some users concern themselves with display resolution, size, process, camera, and design when it comes to choosing a smartphone, some users are in it for the long-haul meaning that they want a phone that will last, or should it break down, it should also be relatively easy and cheap to fix.
The OnePlus 2 was awarded a score of 7/10 for its repairability, which is pretty decent for a flagship smartphone. The device, which includes individual parts that can be replaced. This means if any one part stops functioning, the whole unit will have to be replaced. Once those are removed you’ll really get to the guts of the device, including the battery, which iFixit notes isn’t actually that hard to swap out. After all 18 screws have been removed and the midframe is lifted from the device, most other major components are exposed – the 3,300mAh battery, the 13MP rear-facing camera sensor, and the Snapdragon CPU.
iFixit had issues attempting to remove the OnePlus One’s trademark red battery but that’s less of a problem in the OnePlus 2 – despite OnePlus’ warning that the battery is non-removable.
The components of the motherboard and other step-by-step details can be seen on the iFixit website. The reason the smartphone didn’t score any higher is because of the display, which is fused with the digitizer glass.
