OnePlus plans to launch a new smartphone this Christmas
OnePlus CEO Carl Pei confirmed plans to launch the smartphone around that time in an interview with USA Today. Two topics stood out to us, though – one as a response to the backlash heard over the company’s decision to leave out NFC in the OnePlus 2, and another that talks of a new OnePlus phone coming later this year that will be “amazing”.
Smartphone maker OnePlus is riding some strong marketing momentum after announcing the OnePlus 2 device in late July. He then added that he was pretty impressed when he saw what the phone was capable of and considered making it his daily driver, but then the OnePlus 2 production versions came out and Pei said that he’s now torn between both devices.
Definitely we have to agree that OnePlus 2 comes with options of 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 3GB RAM, which clear the scenarios of heavy multi-tasking.
I don’t know what to tell you anymore.
“I think the entire issue of NFC is overblown”. It is going to gain widespread adoption in stores 12-18 months from now.
Pei also revealed that OnePlus was working on a fitness tracker, but scrapped it to stay focused on making phones. He said the phone may or may not feature better specifications compared to the OnePlus 2 but the prototype left quite an impression on him. Pei said the company broke even this past year, and although he hopes and expects the company to turn profitable over time, that’s not the ultimate goal. We want to work with other people. He claims Samsung and Apple will remain in the industry, alongside OnePlus. “Everyone else would’ve died because they couldn’t reach the scale they wanted fast enough or they couldn’t have a margin to sustain their business”.
