OnePlus To Get Its Phones Manufactured In India
OnePlus on Monday announced its strategic partnership with Foxconn to start local manufacturing of its smartphones in India. “India is one of our biggest markets worldwide and we are committed to a long-term sustainable growth path”, Lau said. India is expected to overtake the United States in 2017 to become the world’s second largest smartphone market after China.
OnePlus is already making outrageous promotional deals inside India, including a free OnePlus One if the delivery takes over 60 minutes in the southern city Bengaluru. Shipments to India grew 44 per cent to 26.5 million units in April-June, 2015. The OnePlus crew have also announced that they’ll be releasing the OnePlus 2 again for 1-hour this afternoon in another of their many moves to create hype around the device and its production.
As part of its initiative, OnePlus’ handsets will be manufactured by Foxconn in its Sri City factory, about 35 miles north of Chennai. It also recently launched its OnePlus 2 smartphone, featuring a Snapdragon 810 processor and OxygenOS, OnePlus’ Android variant. Pete Lau said both the OnePlus One and Two will be made in India. The first assignment of made in India smartphones will be available in the market by the end of this year.
Foxconn is investing $5 billion to set up manufacturing units in India over the next five years. If you’ve been following the company’s track record, you’ll know how hard it is to buy one of their phones due to its invite-based sales model. It expects to employ over 1000 full time workers at the facility. “The Andhra Pradesh government assures all cooperation and support to OnePlus to help them cater to the growing demands in the Indian market”, he added.
As TechOne3 reported in the past, the OnePlus 2 will be the first smartphone by the Chinese company that it will manufacture in the country.
