Online sales surge on Black Friday, with Amazon topping discounts
Holiday shoppers eager to snag big discounts turned to the internet in record fashion this week, one tracking company said, driving online sales on Black Friday to a new high.
Stores across the USA opened their doors Friday for what is still one of the busiest shopping days of the year, with hundreds of shoppers flooded into, and in some cases lining up in front of malls to get the best Black Friday deals as the start of the holiday shopping season edging closer year over year.
Amazon said on Friday that mobile orders on Thanksgiving topped last year’s holiday and Cyber Monday combined.
The annual sales event has been associated with bedlam as shoppers in previous years packed into stores, pushing and shoving to get their hands on the latest deals.
