Oops! Texas governor Greg Abbott’s office Twitter account jinxes Astros
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, center, arrives on the field to watch warm ups before the Oklahoma vs Texas NCAA college football game at the Cotton Bowl Stadium Saturday, October 10, 2015, in Dallas.
Only one problem – the Astros lost that game.
Down 6-2 in the eighth when the governor jinxed their opponents, the Royals rallied.
Houston led by four runs and was six outs away Monday from finishing off Kansas City, and the office of Republican Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted congratulations to the Astros for advancing to the AL Championship Series.
He deleted the tweet, but the damage was done: The Houston Chronicle managed a screengrab of the error. “No predictions. Just support”.
At the time of the tweet, the Astros were up 6-2 entering the eighth inning. Why, it would be exciting enough to prematurely tweet how exciting it would be.
The Blue Jays didn’t do Abbott any favours either after the team posted seven runs in the first three innings against the Texas Rangers en route to an 8-4 Game 4 victory to even the series.
