Oops: Wrong Name Announced As Winner Of Miss Universe Pageant
Miss Universe 2015 host Steve Harvey apologized on Twitter for mistakenly announcing the victor of the pageant in Las Vegas Sunday night.
It turns out that Steve Harvey had misread his card and that Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, was the actual Miss Universe victor.
A stunned Wurzbach, who had taken her place with the other contestants behind Arevalo, then walked out to center stage.
For a moment, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez savored wearing the precious crown after being announced the victor of the worldwide beauty competition but her victory was short-lived.
But then the host Steve Harvey said he’d made a awful mistake.
The Miss Universe Organization echoed Harvey’s statement, saying “human error can come into play” during a live telecast. I like the way he got out and (apologized).
Later, Wurtzbach told reporters that she wished Arevalo well.
The crown was passed over to Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach to a room full of mixed reactions.
She says she tried to approach Ms Aravelo on stage afterwards but the Colombian was crying and surrounded by a crowd of women and she realised it was “probably bad timing”.
As footage of the event showed, the moments following Harvey’s clarification were marked by utter confusion and shock.

It appears that Harvey relied on auto-correct on his phone when he tweeted because he took the misspelled tweet down as fast as the crown was ripped from Miss Colombia’s head.
For the first time, viewers at home weighed in, with their votes being tallied in addition to four in-person celebrity judges.
The pageant was owned by Donald Trump and NBCUniversal until earlier this year.
In a short video posted on Miss Universe 2015’s social media accounts, Gutierrez said that everything happens for a reason.
