Opel Astra wins Car of the Year at Geneva show
Without doubt a star of the 2016 Geneva Motor Show is the Vauxhall GT concept.
It was the Vauxhall Astra that scored the most points in the end, specifically 309 in total, allowing it to beat contenders like the Volvo XC90 SUV which came second overall with 294 points.
To choose the auto, 58 automotive journalists from 22 different European countries vote on their favorites, with each journalist getting 25 points to allocate to their favorite cars.
The awarding occurred on the eve of the first press day at the 86th Geneva International Motor Show.
The new Opel Astra is “Car of the Year 2016” and therefore the victor of the most renowned award in the industry!
Seven European automotive publications were behind the award. “This is the new model’s first full year of sales, and it has already been well-received”.
Mr Keley said Holden engineers had a hand in developing the new Astra, and that the model will be fine-tuned for local conditions before it goes on sale in Australia.
Both the five-door and the Sports Tourer variants of the new titleholder are based on a completely new lightweight vehicle architecture. The auto also features an upgraded interior as well as an assortment of fuel-efficient three- and four-cylinder engines.
The previous winners were the Astra Mk2, the Omega A, the Insignia and the Ampera range extender petrol-electric vehicle. Awards and Scottish Car of the Year.
