Open Bionics Creates Disney-Inspired Bionic Hands For Amputee Kids
So Open Bionics, makers of low-priced but highly capable prosthetic robotic hands, have teamed up with Disney to realise a few very cool designs.
Open Bionics took part in this year’s Disney Accelerator program, which is how the collaboration came about.
In a statement Open Bionics remarked: “Now kids can get excited about their prosthetics”.
The company has produced hands with Star Wars, Frozen and Iron Man-themed designs – complete with glowing LED lights built into the casing.
The company is using 3D printing to keep the cost affordable but, with the increased focus on the designs, they hope to make the prosthetics something the wearer can be proud of, as well as something that makes their lives easier.
“(Children) won’t have to do boring physical therapy – they’ll train to become heroes”, the website reads.
Youngsters who love the Marvel Universe can get a prosthetic created to look just like Tony Stark’s Iron Man glove, while lightsaber and snowflakes adorn two other devices.
The Walt Disney Company is donating the time and artwork of its creative teams and providing royalty free licenses from Marvel, Frozen and Star Wars to Open Bionic for this project.
