Opera singer performs Schubert while undergoing brain surgery
GMB is an aggressive form of cancer with a three-year mortality rate of 90%.
What makes Bajec-Lapajne’s performance all the more remarkable was that he did while he was getting a brain tumor removed.
To ensure Ambrož’s cognitive functions were working properly, he was encouraged to talk throughout the surgery, and was even asked to sing while surgeons were working on his exposed brain, Metro reported.
A Slovenian opera singer shared video of himself singing Schubert while undergoing brain surgery in the Netherlands. The surgery was done at the Utrecht University medical center.
Going above and beyond the doctors’ orders, he sung throughout the whole operation proving he still had control over his vocal chords.
The tenor chose to perform “Gute Nacht“, by the 19th century early Romantic composer Franz Peter Schubert.
His voice trails away mid-phrase, while he face appears to sag slightly. I believe he rewired my brain for a while and that was the result.
Although he just posted the video this month, Bajec-Lapajne says the surgery was more than a year ago and he is now doing fine. “It was a very weird feeling”, he said.
