Oregon football media day: Nothing new with Vernon Adams, Thomas Tyner removed
According to CSNNW.com’s Aaron Fentress, junior running back Thomas Tyner will miss the entire 2015 season after undergoing successful shoulder surgery this past Friday. Apparently the surgery is to clear “lingering pain” from a shoulder issue sustained towards the end of Tyner’s sophomore campaign. Lack of experience does not mean a lack of productivity in the Ducks offense, as Freeman showed last season, but redshirt sophomore Kani Benoit only has 23 career carries while Tony Brooks-James and Taj Griffin have yet to make an appearance in a game. He attempted to avoid an operation but ultimately couldn’t.
After kicking things off with a walk-through Monday morning, the Oregon football team was scheduled to formally begin preseason camp for the 2015 season with the first official practice later in the day. Nelson will likely be listed on Offense as a Wide Receiver, but he is versatile enough to play the Running Back position, if needed. But while he’s sidelined, Oregon has the depth of talent at running back to overcome his loss and continue to be a contender in the Pac-12.
Those hoping for any form of updated timeline regarding the arrival of transfer quarterback Vernon Adams will be disappointed – but, at this point, not surprised – that there, again, was none. “His loss could force senior Byron Marshall to return to running back after spending most of last season at receiver”.
Also off the roster is veteran Stetzon Bair, a reserve who switched from defensive line to offensive line last season. He caught 74 passes for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns.
