Oregon QB Adams leaves game after hit to head
TCU players celebrate their win in the Alamo Bowl NCAA college football game against Oregon, Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, in San Antonio.
TCU strikes back after being down as much as 31 points at halftime to pull out one of the greatest comebacks in bowl game history…
OR dominated for the majority of the first half, scoring 31 points and leading at halftime. “They just never quit”.
Gary Patterson and the #11 TCU Horned Frogs went into half-time down 31-0 to the Oregon Ducks.
Let’s not pretend TCU played well in the first half, but, like, even their blocked punts turned into OR first downs.
Meanwhile, the outside noise is bound to intensify after Saturday’s second-half collapse. “We’ve had to do that before”.
TCU (11-2) rallied behind quarterback Bram Kohlhausen, who shook off a tough first half to throw for 351 yards, pass for two touchdowns and run for two more.
TCU will be without quarterback Trevone Boykin, who led the preseason No. 2 Horned Frogs to an 8-0 start with 28 passing touchdowns (34 total) and five interceptions while TCU scored at least 40 points in seven of the eight games. Another senior, running back Aaron Green, balanced out the offense with over 1,000 yards on the ground this season with double-digit touchdowns. He also had a 68-yard burst on his first kickoff return of the season, which set up Jared Cornelius’ 13-yard touchdown on an end around.
TCU first got on the scoreboard early in the third quarter when Oberkrom kicked a 24-yard field goal to cut Oregon’s lead to 31-3.
“In the first half we were shooting ourselves in the foot with penalties”, Kohlhausen said. Patterson was forced to play 3o freshmen, divided evenly among first-year players and redshirts.
After the teams exchanged field goals in the second overtime, Kohlhausen sneaked around the right end on an option, and seemingly disappeared behind his blockers until he was in the end zone. The Ducks failed to score on their six possessions of the second half and produced only 18 yards from scrimmage. That was when the Frogs came through. You miss a tackle, it’s a touchdown, regardless of which guy it is. “There’s some big shoes to fill”.
Adds Patterson: “For me, it doesn’t make any difference which one of them starts”. “It seems like just yesterday that I was getting ready for my senior season at Madison”. Honestly, I dedicate it to Trevone. “He showed me how to play like I did tonight”. This past week Boykin was arrested for an incident at a bar and has been suspended for the Alamo Bowl, along with wide receiver Preston Miller.
“I mean, it means a lot, but most importantly, it means a lot for me to win my last game in purple with my teammates – with my brothers”.

Arkansas lost three of its first four games and was 2-4 halfway through the year.
“The only negative of coming here is you play against a really, really good football team”, Helfrich said.
And the plays happened for the Frogs.
“I did the same thing at Ohio State”, Patterson said. I started out in black, and we were down 21-0….
‘I apologize to everyone again for my lapse in judgement.
Through the injuries, the quitters, the guys who fell into trouble, TCU never backed down, never gave up, and they were rewarded with an 11-win season.
