Oregon QB Vernon Adams gets his shot at USC
With 18 seconds left, OR sat on the ball, right?
This coming Friday, the Ducks take on the Oregon State Beavers in a storied rivalry that shapes up to be a sad story for the black and orange, who are suffering through a rebuilding effort that is going to take at least three years.
“This is going to be about points”, Helton said. My mom literally lives five minutes walking distance from the Rose Bowl. They have not been the same team since losing star LB Mychal Kendricks at the beginning of the year and often displayed erratic play under QB Josh Rosen. “But everything happens for a reason.”. Both teams are 7-3 this season and Southern Cal comes in hot with a chance to nab the division lead over Utah after the Trojans won last week.
Confidence is what this team has entering next week’s game against Oregon State where they will look to make it seven in a row.
The Ducks (7-3) picked up their seventh win of the season in a thrilling victory against the Stanford Cardinal last week.
One thing is certain – USC needs to win and there are colossal implications on these next two games.
Will OR be able to win this one at home OR does USC pull off an upset? “You saw that in the Stanford game”. “I just feel like my season’s just all right”. Should defensive coordinator Don Pellum lose his job? And then Adams improvises. And then they make a play, and it gets loud again.
Lastly, Colorado is getting better.
The biggest difference, without question, between the 3-3 Ducks and the 8-3 Ducks is a healthy Vernon Adams.
“That’s insane”, USC offensive tackle Chad Wheeler said.
“I never asked him specifically what it was about, but deep down “. “We need to get everybody on the same page, somehow, and get a little uniformity”, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said.
Adams showed most of the same skills at Alemany, but scholarship offers from major programs did not materialize.
Ducks quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. was viciously efficient.
“We really made stopping the run an emphasis in practice”, Helton said. The freshman linebacker, Smith, leads the team in tackles with 78 total tackles this season and has three interceptions.
“I’m very excited, for a few reasons”, he said.
“I was just thinking like what if the National Football League scouts are saying, “OK, this kid is pretty good; he”s got good numbers and stuff like that, but he”s doing it against smaller competition.
The Pac-12 Championship is two weeks away and the teams are not set yet. USC increased the pressure, sacking Adams twice.
His arrival in Eugene was unexpectedly delayed because he needed to retake a class during summer to fulfill graduation requirements.
“I was reading the quarterback’s eyes”, Plattenburg said. He is showing, week by week, what OR might have done had he not broken a finger in early September. He had two passes intercepted in a loss against MI State, did not play against Georgia State, and came out of the game during a lopsided loss to Utah.
“I couldn”t throw the ball like I wanted to or how I can,” he said.
Adams’ teammates are glad to have him back in the lineup and leading their offense. Freeman ran for 32 yards, and Adams threw 28 yards to Addison, who led UO with five receptions for 105 yards.
Now he is looking forward to playing against the Trojans, rattling off the names of almost a dozen USC players he considers friends.
