Oregon State-Washington football updates
“Anytime we get a team that comes out and jumps on us the way they did, (that) would be surprising”, Beavers coach Gary Andersen said. “That was definitely not the plan”. They executed and obviously we didn’t. The Huskies were doing whatever they wanted at that point, and it’s a credit to Petersen’s sportsmanship that he stopped passing the ball after the first drive of the 2nd half and was content to run out the rest of the game while emptying his bench.
The Huskies already led 21-0, and were dominating so thoroughly that an OSU score likely wouldn’t have influenced the outcome.
The Huskies have a considerable advantage in the all-time series, with a head-to-head record of 69-32-6.
The Huskies built a 45-0 lead at the half, which led to most fans deciding to spend the rest of their afternoon elsewhere.
Today’s Washington Huskies take on the Oregon State Beavers college football game has a start time schedule of 6:00pm eastern time and will air on TV channel Pac-12 Network.
“It’s easy to just point a finger at one person or one player or one position group”, Andersen said. I didn’t know if he was going to get him or not. There was the one breakdown on the run by Lucas where poor tackling once again bit them in the butt, but otherwise they did a great job shutting down a depleted Oregon State offense. “The kids that are available are the ones we’ve got to play with”.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in Pac-12 play. The Husky defense had two takeaways. Yes, the Beavers were down several players for this game, and their offense likely would have looked better with running-threat Seth Collins at QB, but it wouldn’t have been almost enough to make them competitive in this one.
After keeping it close against Colorado and Stanford, injuries have taken their toll on a defense that could ill afford them. He caught his ninth against Oregon State, and is now tied with Jerramy Stevens.
Obviously, Andersen has not been thrilled. I’ve been in this spot before.
If anyone can put a positive spin on an OSU season that will end Friday in Eugene, it’s Barrs-Woods.
“There’s a lot of emotion right now”, Barnett said.
“I fight every day, this team fights every day to go out there and win. Past all the emotions, I just want to do what I can to help out this team in my final game”.
“I don’t think I played very well last week”, he said. They didn’t get their second until fewer than eight minutes remained in the third quarter and UW was called for a hands-to-the-face penalty. A lot of people quit, a lot of people give up. So while I’m still here I’m still going to mentor the young guys. But you have to deal with the hand you’re dealt and make the best of every situation.
With one game left to become bowl eligible, the Huskies expect another strong performance next week against Washington State in the Apple Cup.
“I just want to thank God”, Barrs-Woods said. He has that glass half-full mentality, much like his former coach Mike Riley. “It’s truly a blessing”. If they can start getting over the hump consistently against similarly talented (and superior) teams, they will be a force to reckoned with.
The Beavers have one more game to try to right a season gone wrong, Friday at OR in the Civil War. With the run game successfully established early, it was easy pickings for Jake using play-action and finding wide open receivers, and on the rare occasions his guys were well-covered he was fitting the ball in with accuracy and touch. “The fact of the matter is that you’ll remember that forever”.
