Orlando shooter’s wife could be charged soon
The Orlando Sentinel writes that “at least four regular customers” at Pulse said they had seen Mateen before.
Omar Mateen, the shooter who killed 49 people and wounded 53 others at a gay Orlando nightclub, married his wife in California a few months after finalizing the divorce from his first marriage, records show.
Omar Mateen, who authorities say killed 49 people at the gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando, Fla., was reportedly no stranger to the club.
Federal officials added Noor Salman, as well as her father-in-law Seddique Mateen, to the lists, ABC reports.
Reuters also quotes law enforcement sources as saying Salman is the subject of an investigation.
CBS News reported that the message was posted moments before the attack.
It was also reported that she had been with him when he bought ammunition and a holster and had once dropped him off at the Pulse night club when he apparently went to scope it out.
Earlier this week, a federal law enforcement source told PEOPLE that Mateen recently scouted Walt Disney World as a potential target, visiting the resort in April with his wife.
Disney has raised security at its theme parks following the nightclub shooting. “But she definitely is, I guess you would say, a person of interest right now and appears to be cooperating and can provide us with some important information on who this guy is, what his motivations were and what his plans were”, King said.
“All of this has been so traumatizing”, she said. And he was speaking it very quickly.
“I did everything possible”, he continued, “sent him to school, sent him to college paid for all expenses and he turned out to be a terrorist”.
The 29-year-old expressed support for rival groups that are bitter enemies of one another, such as ISIL, Hezbollah, and al-Qaeda.
In a letter to Facebook Chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg asking for the company’s assistance in the investigation, Johnson said that Mateen used the social networking platform to “search for and post terrorism-related content”. Officials say Mateen professed an allegiance to the Islamic State terror group in a 911 call during the attack; his ex-wife said he was mentally ill; and Mateen’s father suggested he was driven by a hatred of homosexuals.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.
