Orlando Shooter’s Wife Reportedly Knew Of His Plans For Attack
The wife of the gunman who killed 49 people inside an Orlando nightclub had prior knowledge of the deadly attack and has now come under investigation by authorities, according to NBC News. A neighbour said Noor Salman only visited her mother once after she married Mateen. Mateen purchased his weapons in June, long after his removal from the list.More details of the massacre emerged on Monday, with Orlando Police Chief John Mina saying Mateen was cool and calm during phone calls with negotiators.
“He would try to meet people and try to bump up against people and put his arm around and maybe try to dance with them or something because that’s what everybody tries to do”, Van Horn said. Asked directly by CNN whether she believed he was gay, she replied: “I don’t know”.
A message posted by Seddique Mateen on Facebook early Monday morning made clear his own views on homosexuality.
The attack is considered the deadliest mass shooting in US history. When gunfijre erupted, I felt like I was over in Iraq, he said.
President Obama will travel to the scene of the attack in Orlando on Thursday. “They are a humanity killer”, he said. The president also blasted Donald Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric as risky and contrary to American values, challenged Congress to reinstate the assault weapons ban, and lashed out at his Republican foes who have criticized him for not using the term “radical Islam”.
FBI Director James B. Comey said, “We know that this killing is upsetting to all Americans”.
Salman could ultimately face charges of being an accessory to the murders of 49 people and the attempted murders of 53 others. The official said investigators have not ruled out charging others, including the wife.
Ty Smith told the paper that Mateen would sometimes “get so drunk he was loud and belligerent”.
Salman told the Federal Bureau of Investigation she went so far as to drive Mateen by the gay nightclub, two hours away from their home in Port St. Lucie, Fla., because he wanted to scope out the location.
Agents believe he visited those locations in recent months, but can not say for certain he was evaluating them as potential targets, the official said. Mateen had asked him out, the classmate, who did not want to be named, told local television in Orlando.
“She definitely is, I guess you would say, a person of interest right now and appears to be cooperating and can provide us with some important information”.
“There’s an indication that she was with him in certain parts of the process”, said the anonymous official.
Smith and Callen chose to keep their distance from Mateen after they saw him pull a knife at Pulse and threaten another patron, they told the Canadian news agency. And his Afghan-immigrant father suggested he may have acted out of anti-gay hatred.
“When he first contacted me, he was asking. what clubs are popping and things of that sort, and what are good places to go”, West said. Mateen had witnessed two men kissing in public, and became angry, Mateen’s father, Mir Seddique, said. Over the past two years, the Islamic State has targeted gay men for death in keeping with its radical interpretation of Islam, throwing dozens of them from tall buildings in Iraq and Syria. The names of the dead were read aloud.
