Orphaned Baby Possum Has A Cuddly New Best Friend
If Bettina’s furry little face isn’t enough to melt your heart, you’ll be glad to know this charming joey spends most of her time hugging an equally adorable stuffed kangaroo.
The possum joey is being given around-the-clock care by Taronga Zoo vet nurse Felicity Evans who has nicknamed the orphan “Bettina”.
The Taronga Zoo in Mosman, Australia just released a few photos of an orphaned, 4-month-old brushtail possum named Bettina, and this baby marsupial might just be the cutest creature the Internet ever laid eyes on.
Vet nurse Felicity Evans has taken on the role of surrogate mum to the four-month-old possum, carrying a makeshift pouch and waking in the middle of the night to bottle feed the joey.
She found a soft toy kangaroo that she clings to both while she sleeps and eats, zoo officials said. She’ll sit in the spare room next to me and call out when she’s ready to feed, ‘ Ms Evans said.

‘She [the Ringtailed Possum] was only 77 grams when she first arrived and she’s now 180 grams.
An orphaned possum has adopted a kangaroo plush toy after losing his mother in the wild. We’re starting to introduce her to solid foods like carrot and sweet potato, as well as natural browse and native flowers.
Ms Evans says the Bettina’s story should serve as a warning to people on the roads this spring to watch out for wildlife.
“This little joey wouldn’t be alive today if someone hadn’t noticed her and brought her to the wildlife hospital”, said Felicity.
The hospital said it cares for and treats more than 1,000 injured or orphaned native animals every year.
Bettina will stay at the hospital until she is ready to be released back into the wild.
