Oscar Pistorius ‘rushed to hospital after suffering injuries in South African jail’
Jailed South African track star Oscar Pistorius, who is serving six years in jail for murdering his girlfriend, has been treated in hospital for minor wrist injuries. “As a policy principle, we can not further discuss a particular offender’s personal condition in the public domain”, Manelisi Wolela, a spokesman at the Department of Correctional Services, told Reuters, describing the athlete’s injuries as minor.
It quoted a security guard as saying: “He had bad cuts on his wrists and the doctors kept wrapping bandages around them”.
But Wolela says Pistorius has denied speculation of a suicide attempt as is being reported.
He was taken to a private hospital and later returned to jail, prison officials have revealed, and an investigation is underway.
Pistorius is being guarded by 10 prison officers.

The double amputee sprinter is now serving six years for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Judge Masipa issued the new six-year sentence on July 6, citing “mitigating circumstances” for her not adhering to South Africa’s 15-year minimum sentence for murder. The Pistorius’s family said nothing on this matter. Pistorius shot Ms Steenkamp four times through a locked bathroom door in his home on Valentine’s Day, 2013.
After first being found guilty of culpable homicide, equivalent to manslaughter, an appeal court upgraded his conviction to murder in December past year.
A champion Paralympian athlete, with six gold medals to his name, he became the first double-amputee athlete to compete against able-bodied runners in the Olympics in 2012. Later, it emerged out that he intentionally shot her after a heated argument as neighbors told the police that they heard noises and screaming from the house that night.
