Oscars 2016: Calls mount for Chris Rock to bow out as host
A new report from HollywoodLife indicates that Kanye is more than willing to fill in for Chris Rock should he decide to boycott the Oscars along with Will and Jada Smith.
But now activists are getting serious about his participation.
Marlon Wayans weighed in on the growing controversy surrounding the Oscars for the lack of diversity among nominees, saying that while he understands the outrage, he does not think Chris Rock should abandon his hosting gig. Now as the boycott is on the rise, there I intense pressure on Chris to quit his hosting duties and boycott the Oscars as well.
Jada, whose husband Will Smith was overlooked for his role in Concussion this year, also announced on social media that she would not attend this year’s extravaganza.
Chris first hosted the Academy Awards back in 2005, where CNN reported that he opened the show by directly addressing the inclusion of African American actors.
Tyrese Gibson and 50 Cent are urging Chris Rock to step down as host of the 2016 Oscars.
On Monday, Martin Luther King Day, Tyrese went on a rant about those choosing not to protest the awards show.
“We just said to ourselves it needs to be asked, at least officially”, Ali told us. Of the 20 men and women up for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, there is not a single Black contender.
George Clooney went into an in-depth analysis of the whole situation saying that it was not a question of who got nominated, it was rather a question of why they didn’t get nominated.
After the Oscars 2016 nominations were revealed last January 14, 2016, several artists of color in the entertainment industry reacted negatively to the results since not one black movie or artist was nominated for an award. “The academy is probably the most liberal organization in the country this side of the NAACP”, said Bruce Davis, then executive director of the academy. “We’re calling on our white allies in the industry to come forward”.
The Oscars 2016 will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on 28 February 2016.
If I were @chrisrock, I wouldn’t be considering boycotting The Oscars.
“He’s a multi-millionaire”, Ali said.
