Osweiler leads Broncos to comeback win over Patriots
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – As Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning deals with recovery from a tear in the plantar fascia of his left foot, he’s trying to pitch in.
The Denver Post reports that Manning is getting his cast off this week and that he will need “at least” a week of rehab after that happens. And they know what we’re doing, Peyton knows exactly that we’re trying to get him as healthy as we possibly can …
Another problem the Patriots faced was with Amendola out on injury, they had to play a rookie punt returner, Harper, who ended up fumbling a punt in the 4th quarter and the Broncos got the ball back at the Patriots’ 36.
Manning, a brilliant guy who typically communicates his thoughts accurately and completely, left some wiggle room within the words he chose.
“That’s so far ahead of what I’m thinking about”, Manning said. The idea is for it to help toward the healing process.
The 25-year-old will start in place of Manning in San Diego this Sunday.
We’re totally committed to getting our quarterback, getting Peyton healthy, and getting him back and nothing’s changed. Brock is our starter this week, and we’re all-in getting ready for San Diego.
Manning said he’s proud of Osweiler’s play and happy for his teammates.
“They were just teeing off on my teammate and I don’t like that, that bothers me”, Anderson said.
Although Osweiler would get up, dust off the snow and keep right on going, you can bet Kubiak and general manager John Elway cringed, especially when Osweiler limped away after one hard hit.
With Manning still in a walking boot this week and facing more arduous rehab, Kubiak said rookie Trevor Siemian remains Osweiler’s backup a week after Christian Ponder was signed as insurance.
“It was a great win”, Manning said. “The biggest question this week is really going to be about when the cast comes off”, head coach Gary Kubiak said Monday. We are week-to-week and doing everything we can to win the next football game.
“[Anderson] said I have an injured foot, ” Manning said. “He [Anderson] kind of says that you can call it a tear”.
“They were going to put another cast back on, and I said, ‘Is there another option besides putting the cast back on?’ So I’m putting the boot on through Friday”, Manning said. “Absolutely nothing has changed”.
The Broncos love what Osweiler has done, but according to a source, “The coaches are taking a wait and see approach” and “No definitive decision has been made yet”.
