Osweiler scorers first National Football League victory in Chicago

(The Broncos drafted Osweiler ahead of Wilson, remember, way back when.) Lots of “run the football”, “for the football team”, and, finally, “at the end of the day”.

Even though a Brock Osweiler touchdown pass to wide receiver Cody Latimer put the Bears behind 17-9, the home team still had a chance to force overtime. The Broncos have not lost two straight games since back in 2012 and they will be looking to bounce back against the Bears.

“Today is not about me”, Osweiler said. Davis was held out of the end zone once again and hasn’t scored a touchdown all year, but Osweiler understood that the 31-year-old is a reliable veteran when the ball is thrown his way. It had been kind of a field goal game.

However, there’s one player who is honest enough to consider it. According to leading tackler Brandon Marshall, he’s being thinking about it. Talking about Manning’s injury and father time, Marshall commended his teammate as being one of the best all time.

“They went for it on fourth down and didn’t convert either, ” Fox said. We’re going to bring Brock Osweiler in.’ [Osweiler] is a free agent after the year as well.

And the Birthday Boy got his first win as an National Football League starter.

Yet Fox used Kubiak’s questionable fourth-down call to justify his own.

Six of the Bears’ last seven games have been decided by three points or less, with three wins coming by margins of 2, 1 and 3 points and three losses coming by margins of 3, 3 and 2 points.

“We need to be able to run the ball better on offense; that falls on us [the offensive line]”, offensive lineman Kyle Long said.

In another corner of the cramped visiting locker room, Harris chuckled about how the Denver defense knew precisely what the Bears were going to do on the failed two-point conversion that allowed the Broncos to escape with a victory during the waning seconds. Anybody still think Matt Forte is expendable?

True, but the coaches can do a better job of helping the offense get it too.

First, from second-and-goal at the Denver 4-yard line, Jay Cutler threw three consecutive incomplete passes. He has 43 yards, two catches, no touchdowns.

Demaryius Thomas gave the Broncos a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, following a 48-yard touchdown pass.

“You guys always want to hear the blame game, ” Fox said. Do we miss DeMarcus Ware that much or have teams just started to figure us out?

Osweiler, who turned 25 on Sunday, isn’t Peyton Manning. Their team plane was delayed 90 minutes Saturday because of weather, but the arrival of Osweiler as an effective game manager represented the most welcome development for the Broncos.

With this said, if Osweiler can navigate the literal and figurative storms and ice swirling off the shores of Lake MI this afternoon, the Broncos may have actually enhanced themselves as many Denver media have previously surmised will be the case.

The Broncos might move on from Manning in the offseason, though, as Brock Osweiler looked solid in his first career start today and could very well be considered the quarterback in waiting by general manager John Elway (who knows a thing or two about playing the quarterback position). Can the Defense return to form with a more balanced offense?
