Osweiler to start vs. Bengals
Brock Osweiler will remain the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, the team announced.
Peyton Manning (foot) has now gone six straight days without doing any on-field work.
Peyton Manning has missed five games since leaving the Denver Broncos November 15th game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to plantar fasciatis. He was ruled out against the Steelers. It’ll fall on quarterback Brock Osweiler and that Broncos defense to make sure a collapse is prevented.
ESPN reported earlier today that Osweiler would be getting the start, not Manning, in his team’s game on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Coach Gary Kubiak will have to decide which quarterback he feels gives him the best chance to win heading into the playoffs.
“I need to shut up”, Kubiak told reporters regarding the reaction to his description of the session as “big”.
“Watching that kid play, I mean, he’s something else, does it all day, plays extremely hard the entire game”, Kubiak said.
S T.J. Ward returned to practice Wednesday and saw some individual and scout-team repetitions. I like that routine, so that’s what we’re going to do this week.
Broncos lead running back Ronnie Hillman has fumbled the ball three times in the last four games, including a fumble that led to Pittsburgh’s first touchdown last Sunday. “I’m going to go see the doctor this afternoon and hopefully we can get it fixed up”. “It’s good enough to find the open receiver”.
“Brock is our starter moving forward and we’re trying to get Peyton healthy”, Kubiak said Wednesday. With two wins, the Broncos would be guaranteed at least the No. 2 seed, with a first-round bye and a home game in the divisional round. One key? Going back to receiving basics with Demaryius Thomas and Vernon Davis, who’ve both notched drive-killing drops in recent weeks.
“That’s why he’s a Pro Bowl player, and I think there is even more to come down the road for him”, Kubiak said, adding.
