Osweiler Traded To Cleveland
Earlier, the Associated Press reported the Browns will sign free agent right guard Kevin Zeitler from the Cincinnati Bengals.
But the 26-year-old signal caller may not be in Cleveland for long.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the deal Thursday.
The Flathead High School graduate played one tumultuous season in Houston after signing a four-year, $72 million deal to become the Texans’ starter.
Now the Browns reportedly are shopping Osweiler with acquiring a 2018 third-round pick in mind. Why?
Faced with the prospect of paying a man $16 million to sit on the bench next season, the Texans faced a daunting task finding a team willing to buy one of the NFL’s worst quarterbacks, Brock Osweiler. Osweiler has a career passer rating of 77.4. That’s probably not how the quarterback saw his career trajectory going. That’s a pretty good deal for a team with a lot of cap space.
The Brock Osweiler era is over! He threw just 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions a year ago and absolutely threw a playoff win away against the New England Patriots. “I want to thank the Haslams, Sashi (Brown), (Hue) Jackson, Chris (Cooper), everyone for getting this done”. We might see Brock Osweiler’s contract turn into a proverbial hot potato the rest of this week! Cleveland’s line, which was ravaged by injuries last season, gave up a league-high 66 sacks and was a major reason the Browns went 1-15.
The Texans won the division in 2016 despite awful quarterback play. From a Super Bowl champion, to starting on a rising contender, to the Browns, perhaps to unemployed.
While Osweiler does add another quarterback onto the roster, the Browns can very much make the same sort of trade they were going to make before this trade went down.
