Ottawa Redblacks Win the 104th Grey Cup
Led by veteran quarterback Henry Burris, they have a quartet of very risky receivers in Brad Sinopoli, Greg Ellingson, Ernest Jackson and Juron Criner.
But Burris, 41, now officially the grand old man of the Canadian Football League, struck for an 18-yard touchdown pass to Ernest Jackson on the first drive of overtime, giving the RedBlacks, a third-year expansion team, their first Grey Cup with a 39-33 win over the heavily favoured Calgary Stampeders.
But Burris, last year’s outstanding player, stole the show in leading an Ottawa team to a Grey Cup win for the first time since 1976 and avenging the franchise’s loss to Edmonton in the 2015 CFL title game.
“I like the CFL, I do”, he said.
“This season was definitely a step in the right direction for me”, Jensen said. “I’m still riding this rollercoaster”, he said. QB Bo Levi Mitchell and Calgary are chasing their second title in three years. Soon after Bo Levi Mitchell heaved a long pass that Ottawa defensive back Jeff Richards pulled in on Ottawa’s four-yard line.
“We had a lot of heart, a lot of fight to get back”, Calgary coach Dave Dickenson said. “The finality of it. We got it done”. Stay right where you are because we will fill you in on all the details you need to catch the Grey Cup live stream. “Just didn’t get it done”. The 46 yard drive culminated in a 6 yard touchdown pass to Patrick Lavoie.
Zack Medeiros booted a pair of field goals and the underdogs headed for the locker room with a stunning 20-7 lead.
This time, though, Abdul Kanneh tackled Buckley for a one-yard loss and Calgary had to settle for a field goal to force overtime.
Trevor Harris, who split the starting job with Burris this season, and third-stringer Danny O’Brien threw on the sideline ahead of kickoff.
Ottawa might have more receivers with 1,000-plus yards this season, but that’s the only major edge the Redblacks have over the Stampeders. Ottawa found themselves up by a score of 17-7. A late field goal upped the led to 20-7 after two quarters.
This year, the event will be hosted in Toronto, as the Calgary Stampeders will take on the Ottawa Redblacks in a fight for the coveted Grey Cup trophy!
Ottawa’s defence forced another punt, but then wideout Khalil Paden fumbled after a helmet-to-helmet hit by Calgary’s Josh Bell. Tickets are going for about half price on the grey market outside the stadium, but officials expect a record crowd for the recently renovated BMO Field.

Daniels caught seven passes for 89 yards, while Jorden caught five passes for 75 yards. With the convert, it was a 10-point game at 27-17.
The Stamps failed to pick up a yard on their overtime possession. But Ottawa challenged, asking for pass interference.
Calgary fans travel well but Ottawa is only five hours by auto from Toronto.
Henry Burris wasn’t even supposed to play. But he also threw three interceptions.
Uncharacteristically, Jackson bobbled the ball. Ninety-six seconds remained. He ran the ball in for a touchdown, making it 27-23 for Ottawa.
“Henry said ‘If I’m good to go, I’ll let you know, ‘ and obviously he was”, said Ottawa coach Rick Campbell.
