While competing in the vault Saturday at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, French gymnast Samir Ait Said suffered a leg injury.
The 26-year-old’s leg bent awkwardly and snapped as he landed after his acrobatic routine.
On one of the first days of Rio Olympics competition for gymnastics, one of the competitors saw his dreams shattered due to a devastating injury. Said, in excruciating pain, immediately put his hand over his face and clutched the back of his left knee as the bottom of his left leg dangled out at an unnatural angle.
The sound of the leg break could be heard echoing all around the arena on his landing, and we’ve never seen a medical team run to someone’s aid so quickly.
Ait Said is a four-time European championships medalist on rings, including gold in 2013.
Social media lit up with well wishes for the athlete after the injury. This left his left leg bent gruesomely at an nearly right angle.
