Outgoing Indian envoy calls on PM Nawaz
Aziz made a policy statement in the Senate on Tuesday regarding the short visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Pakistan on December 25.
President and former prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said Nawaz Sharif should take the nation into confidence regarding his meeting with Indian PM Narendra Modi.
“The foreign secretaries would meet on January 14-15 and draw up a map for the next six months for talks on 10 identified subjects”, Aziz said.
Sharif also expressed optimism that India-Pakistan ties would improve in the days ahead and the “spirit of goodwill generated with Modi’s visit will continue to prevail”.
“It is a good development as far as initiation of the dialogue process between the two countries was concerned but cautioned against unrealistic expectations”.
An 11 member delegation which accompanied Prime Minister Modi during his visit to Lahore was issued temporary visas and all immigration procedures were followed.
Though there was no official announcement to this effect, reports said said that Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar will travel to Islamabad to hold talks with Sartaj Aziz, the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs.
Nawaz Sharif said that it was not only his responsibility to get Pakistan out of crisis rather the whole political spectrum would have to play its role in making peaceful and progressive Pakistan.
“Then we move forward to resolving issues”, he said.
