Outlook For iOS Now Better Integrated With MS Office Apps
Should you originate your Word document, PowerPoint file or Excel sheet from within one of the apps, all that you need to do is to tap the “Send with Outlook” button in the share function, and you’re good to go.
Microsoft has delivered an update to its Office for iOS apps that brings greater integration between Outlook and the three key elements of the productivity suite. The basic viewer hasn’t been scrapped just yet: It still opens if you haven’t download the corresponding Office app, and provides an app store link to do so. That’s because Office for Windows has had rich integration between these apps “for decades”, as Microsoft pointed out.
Outlook for iOS now opens Office documents sent as attachments directly in their respective apps. Where before that process usually required a PC, now employees can take care of it from their iPhone or iPad. For the majority of us out there, typing out a Word document or crunching numbers on a spreadsheet using our smartphones are common, and if you happen to be using Outlook for iOS, here’s news for you.
This button will bring up the Outlook “Compose New Email” pane with the document attached and ready to share.
Similar integration is expected for Android in the coming months. The blog further stated that while regular OneDrive is integrated with Outlook for iOS, OneDrive for Business will see the same treatment later this year.
