Over $46 Million Pledged to Kickstarter Video Games in 2015
Shenmue III led all other video game projects with more than $6.3 million raised during its run from 69,000 backers. Between video games and tabletop games, more than $144 million was pledged – a figure that nearly doubled what was pledged in 2014. Still, pessimism aside, Kickstarter had a great 2015 and ran up pledges to the tune of $46 177 705 from 480 382 backers.
Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter had a fantastic year on the gaming front. These days, you can barely open up a front page for news without seeing a selection of studios and publishers looking to source some coin for their game through the magic crowd-sourced funds. Not to mention, if Obsidian Entertainment didn’t use Kickstarter to help subsidize it’s isometric fantasy title, Pillars of Eternity, it may not have existed to become one of the best RPG games of 2015. But if you are backing something on Kickstarter, remember that there is an element of risk attached to your backing, that plans can change, and you may have to resolve to only backing projects whose creators have a solid track record behind them.
“We couldn’t be more psyched”, Kickstarter said. Kickstarter says there were 421 successful video game projects this year-here’s hoping they’ll all actually deliver.
