Over half a million pounds of Sanderson Farms chicken recalled
An internal investigation is expected, but the company seems to have zeroed in on the cause.
Thereafter, samples of the products analyzed by customers and the USDA corroborated the fact. The establishment determined that the contamination occurred due to a malfunction with an ice-making machine used during production.
The company said none of the products were shipped to grocery stores or packed directly for consumers. These items were shipped to processing facilities in Georgia and Louisiana. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
The FSIS adds in their press release that the products being recalled are the “YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS JUMBO BONELESS SKINLESS BREAST FILLETS WITH RIB MEAT” with case code 45017, and the “YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS JUMBO CLIPPED TENDERLOINS” with case code 45092.
The facility is planning to be about two miles northwest of Interstate 95, but representatives of the state Department of Environmental Quality said Sanderson Farms violated a state environmental law by starting construction without a land permit.
If any customer of the Company or consumers have any questions regarding this recall, they should call the Company at 1-800-844-4030.
Sanderson Farms prepares and distributes fresh and frozen chicken, as well as prepared foods. The product included ice packed chicken products sold to three customers who use the products for additional processing into further processed chicken products.
