Overkill? Vivo’s latest flagship smartphone packs a whopping 6GB of RAM
But the real surprise comes in the form of the Vivo XPlay 5 Ultimate Edition which will top the spec chart with its 6GB LPDDR4 RAM.
Vivo is all set to launch its long-rumored smartphone, the Xplay 5 in China later today. If you think you don’t need that too much RAM, there’s a lower end version with only 4GB RAM and a Snapdragon 652. This will be the only phone with a massive 6GB RAM. Well, that’s the costlier variant called the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite.
The Vivo XPlay 5 Ultimate Edition houses a Snapdragon 820 under the hood and is clad in a Aluminium-Magnesium alloy casing which apart from imparting the looks will also render a higher degree of strength for the phone.
The Xplay 5 Elite also comes with a 16MP Sony IMX298 rear camera sensor that has the feature of the moment: phase-detection autofocus.
Just like most of the other smartphones, the Fingerprint sensor sits at the back and the company claims that it can unlock the phone in 0.2 seconds. The smartphone comes equipped with a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, paired with an Adreno 530 graphics processing unit and 6GB of RAM. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Vivo Xplay5 Elite packs a 16-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 8-megapixel front shooter for selfies.
Vivo Xplay 5 Elite boasts a 5.43-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) dual-curved edge display that features Corning Gorilla Glass 4 coating.
As for the operating system, it is running on a custom skin of Android 5.1 Lollipop that includes the Funtouch launcher which supports split-screen functionality. The devices come in only color options – Champagne Gold and Rose Gold.
The Vivo Xplay 5 Ultimate edition will be available with a price tag of 4,288 Yuan (approximately Rs. 44,000) on a future date while the standard version is now listed for pre-order at 3,698 Yuan (approximately Rs. 38,000).
